Objectives of psychology
Objectives of psychology in education perspective and general view
There are four objectives of studying psychology,
namely to describe behaviour, understand behaviour, predict behaviour and to
control behaviour.
- Describe: the first objective of
psychology is to describe how behaviour occurs.
- Understand: the second objective is
to determine the causes of behaviour.
- Predict: after describing and
understand the causes of behavior we are able to predict how one will
behave under certain conditions.
- Control: the forth objective of
psychology is to influence the behaviour of individuals.
As a teacher you like to know what somebody is doing and
how is doing it (describe); then know why is s/he acting like that (cause);
will s/he do the same in the future (predict)?; and finally what can be done to
maintain/eliminate the behaviour (control).
